302 crank pulley search
Hey guys!
I just joined today and after reading through this forum it seems there is a lot of knowledge here.
I know this is an old thread but i was hoping to have new light shining down on my issue.
I have a '78 302 engine that i had all the engine work done to that is going in my 65 mustang.
The issue I ran into is the harmonic balancer (28oz) is the original 78 302 one and I can not find a crank pulley anywhere. NO parts stores can order them, find them and even many yards I called have no listing nor can i find one.
I have a 65-66 water pump on it so that my radiator hoses r on the passengers side for my radiator. the timing cover is the 78 ( timing marks r the 10-11 instead of the 65-65 1-2 oclock).
Does anyone know what year I can interchange from so i can get the proper 4 bolt pulley?
If i need to get spacers to align the pulleys up thats fine. Aftermarket is fine also.
This is holding up the project.
I have been through every sit looking at billet ones. etc..
HELP ME PLEASE!

I have a crank pulley off my 78 motor but going to use serpentine belt setup. It's bead blasted and primered with etching primer I think its 3 or 4 groove though. Email me if interested @

This is the same problem I'm having. I have a 302 with a 4 bolt harmonic balancer.
I can find only stinking 3 bolt multi groove pulleys for my PS upgrade. I ended up buying a new 3 bolt harmonic balancer for $90 to fit a 3 groove 3 bolt pulley.
Where the hell are all the 4 bolt multi groove pulleys? And were 4 bolt primarily on trucks and 3 bolts on cars?

Not an authority, but I recently went thru a similar situation and found the crank and water pump pulley come in sets so suggest take the part number off the water pump pulley and purchased a crank that matches. Found a seller on ebay who had a selection of 302 engine pulleys so I emailed him with the crank and water pump pulley part numbers and he responded with a list of options of either purchasing the crank pulley, or water pump pulley to get a match set; best think I could have done, no more washers and or spacers to get the proper belt alignment. Oh what an improvement!!
