1994 5.0 to 5.8 swap
the 5.0 in my truck is almost crapped out. i was thinking about swapping in a 5.8 out of the same year truck since i can get a complete used one for the same price as a 5.0. i have the 5 speed transmission and couldn't find any threads about this swap with a manual trans. what all would i need to change to make this work?

There are more 302 to 351w swap threads, but they are in the truck forums.
Exhaust is a little farther apart, so the y-pipe needs to be replaced if you are staying with the stock exhaust.
Stay tuned. Conanski is the guru on these btw, if you want to search his posts.

Well i have a couple options. I found a guy with a early 90s 5.8 out of a van with 36,000 miles for $450 but its a drive. I also found a 95 5.0 in a wrecked f150 for $400 but i gotta pull the engine. If i went with the 5.8 would i need any of the computer stuff since im gonna be using the 5 speed trans thats in the truck now? I know i need the flywheel for the 5.8 but anything else?

You need a complete 5.8 EFI motor for this swap, that means oilpan to throttlebody with exhaust manifolds because many of these parts are different than what's on the 5.0 and they won't fit on the physically larger 5.8. You also need a 28oz flywheel for your trans and the exhaust Y pipe has to be widened about an inch, but the 5.0 wiring harness will plug right into the 5.8 and the 5.0 computer will run a stock 5.8 though a 5.8 computer is techcically ideal. If you get an earlier 5.8 you will need to modify the distributor for remote TFI, that's pretty easy you just have to disassemble it and install the PIP module from your 5.0 distributor.. which also involves drilling a small hole in the body of the distributor for the wiring pigtail.
