$ is the reason I parted out my wheeler and switched to riding ATVs as a hobby.

$100 of gas for 6 hrs vs $ 21 for a whole weekend is hard to beat.

I sat down a few weeks ago and really thought about it. I've got $6k in the little 466 (that includes the orginial build plus the re-build with new block and pistons after I blew it up), and will be around $10k in the new A headed motor. Add to that about $750ish for fuel systems, $2k ish for nitrous systems and spare parts (both motors), $2k in axles/gears (pro gears ain't cheap!), $2800 in the tranny, $300 for roll cage, and another $300 in the gauges/interior crap. Turnkey, that makes the ranger valued at around $24,000 with all the spare parts/extra motor that I'll NEVER see come back and that's not including the DOT and cut tire sets on wheels that costs well into the several thousands.

It's just crazy how much money you can drop into something and most people never notice it thinking it's just some dented up mud truck. Then add to that the $200 per day in entry fees, $100 in race fuel, $50 in nitrous, and whatever fuel costs to get there and food/drinks for the day for me and my crew. All I gotta say is I need another hobby!

One thing for sure is racing isn't cheap anymore if you want to even have a shot to finish in the top 3!!
I kinda disagree with this.... it all depends what class your in... this year i did pretty good seing as i had 400 bucks in the engine. and i took several first and a couple seconds then a third, with the exception of about 3-4 races i went to i placed top 3 and didnt loose money on the nights i placed either but that's the difference between a 'street truck' and a modified truck

Up here we don't have those motor class rules. It's all based off tire size. So that theory is out. It's why when I went to NC I had to race in c light which is not a cheap class to race in if you want to be competitive.

we split stuff up in tire class's to, BUT there are engine limit's to, the class i race is dual plane intake cast iron heads vac secondary carb and youve gotta have exhaust with mufflers past the cab, along with working head light's/tail lights

Ask critter, up here its stock style suspension and tire size, other than that its all the motor you can afford.
