Backup Camera in the Rearview Mirror Question
What kind of input does that little LCD screen take?
I'm hoping it's a normal RCA input.
I plan on removing this mirror and installing it into my Mustang. Then installing a backup camera into my Mustang trunklid keyhole. I got my hands on a brand new Taurus auto-dim mirror to replace the Expy one.
thx guys

I am pretty sure that it is not a standard RCA end. It (the mirror) has a harness that connects to the car. In that harness there should be 3 wires in addition to wires that feed to a non display mirror. These wires should be a video +, video -, and a reverse 12v. The reverse 12volt is what turns on the lcd when the car gets put into reverse.
What you probably have to do is run a wire from the reverse wire in the kick panel to the mirror for power and then cut off the RCA jack to get the outer/inner (+/-) wires and tap those into the mirror harness as well.
There are a lot of shoulds and probablys in my post but I have started doing my homework. I am installing an OEM reverse camera into my 07 expedition which did not come with the wiring for the camera. I am having to run my own wiring because i am going to hook up the camera to the navigation unit and the mirror. I am getting the for sure info on how to wire the mirror, and as soon as i find out I will post again.

radio shack supposedly sells a video cable with a RCA plug on one end and the split wire on the other. I am planning on checking that out sometime soon.
EDIT***Here it is. I bought it today to check it out. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...uctId=2103849#

thanks guys...I bought my goodies tonight and hopefully will tear into the Expy next week when it all arrives.
I need to re-route the OEM camera harness to the dash for the new head-unit. When I do that, I'm hoping it will simply plug in.
I asked about the RCA plugs though for the integration with the backup camera I am going to buy. the new camera uses a power, ground, and RCA wire.

I need the Expy backup camera mirror to use RCA...but maybe I can use that Radioshack RCA plug thingy.
I have a feeling I'm biting off more than I can chew

never ended up doing this mod on the Expy or Mustang
but did a very similar one for my F-250
the factory camera uses 2 wires for video signal. a + and a -. It also has a power wire and a ground.
For my F-250, I grabbed the factory camera and rearview mirror from a 2010 F-150. ran the +/- wires and basically it all just plugged in.
I used rca wires from camera to mirror. It's wired to trigger on when truck is in reverse. The LCD looks awesome and is very functional IMO.
