Your GVWR is 6750? i've never seen a highboy with a GVWR other than 7700 (with one exception, saw one with a 8100 rating at a junkyard once, it had 7 leaves up front, 13 leaves in the rear).

What's your leaf spring count front and rear?

Interesting, I hope no shenanigans went on with this truck, but I don't think so. Everything I look at points to a highboy and not a Frankenstein.

The VIN on the manufacture sticker matches the VIN on the plate riveted to the door which matches the VIN on the cowl tag. The GVWR matches up on the plates.

It has a low pinion D44 with open knuckles, big hubs and disc brakes up front with power assist steering. It also has the divorced transfer case.

I have 6 leaves front and rear in my springs. My frame rails measure 34" and my rear springs measure 2 1/4" which matches this info on pirate 4x4...not that it can't be wrong. I also have no rear tank, an in cab tank and two side mount tanks.

73-771/2 F250, 4wd, Highboys, Reg Cab, Super Cabs, Long Bed Frames Are Also 34" From Side To Side In The Rear. These Trucks Did Not Come With Rear Gas Tanks, Only In Cab Tanks And Side Mount Tanks If Ordered That Way. The Rear Leaf Springs Were Also 2 1/4" Wide.
Also from pirate 4x4, showing different GVWR for the 72 model year. The 77 model year could have a similar scale and mine is VIN'ed as a F260 which would put it at the bottom of the scale.

1972 4x4
GVW model code
6,800 F-260
7,100 F-261
7,700 F-262
6,300 F-263
7,700 F-264
Information from another Ford site I found. I think this is a copy and paste of information from Wikipedia, not that it's a credible source.

F260 F261 F262 F263 F264 F265 F266: 3/4 ton (4X4) (6,500–8,400 GVWR max)
I have nothing of any substance or cold hard facts that say either way whether or not the truck is a highboy or not, but when I piece all the info together it points to it being one.

I guess another explanation is that someone at the factory made a typo on the tags, but that is probably not very likely.

I have the five volume green shop manual for this truck. I am going to look through it and do some more research. I was pretty sure this was a highboy when I first bought it but now you made me second guess it. Thanks a lot...

Ha, it's definitely a Highboy, no question there, i was just thrown off by the lower GVWR, never seen one like that before and i've been around these trucks for awhile.

No problem, that is why I am here. This is the first Ford I have owned and I need all the info I can get on it. Now back to helping the original poster figure out his stuff.

The last LETTER and 5 #'s is the serial # which is used to identify the model year. Don't need it to see how many gas tanks u have, just look to see if there a AUX and MAIN switch to change tanks, possibly by the temp controls
