cab swap

Ok so I have 76 reg cab long box, full time 4x4, 360, auto. so the body on it was TRASHED! their wasnt a clean panel on this truck but runs great & has a plow on it. so I have it rebodyied now with a rust free cab & front clip off of a 79 2wd. the 79 was a 351M/400, 4 speed truck. I'm down to wiring it all back up now. I used the entire wiring harness out of the 79 donor truck. I've got it all plugged in & hooked up & what not beside the tranny harness. I still need to go order a distributar for it yet. that should be fun. last time I did this I got into a nicelittle arguement with the local parts store manager because ford didnt offer a 77 F150 with a Electronic ignition and a 390. LMAO

I have my 77 swb 390, 4x4, auto sitting here next to it to compare harness's with & from what I can see their both wired the same beside's the tranny wiring.

so first problem.
I have no power anywhere in the truck beside's the hot side of the starter silnoid and to the plow controls. thats with the key on & or off

second problem
with the 76 being a auto & the 79 being a manual who's got some idea's on the neutral safty switch issue I'm going to run into here?

3rd thing. has anyone here used one of the kit's that converts the NP 203 from full time to part time?

Any input on any of these issue's would be great thanks

As for your first problem check the fusible links coming off the battery side of the solenoid....

had the same problem with my 250 after the frame swap ... turns out i'd disturbed thr fuse box, 2 loose fuses and forgotten the ground wire mounted behind the gauge cluster... yes ford did make an electric ignition in 76/77 try ordering one for a 2 wheel drive f250..as for the auto trans setup you need to either plug yours into the harness or find a c6 78/79 tranny harness regardless of engine size but your shgould plug in and without it your gonna have some power loss in the wiring as the nuetral saftey switch in the tranny turns off several other pieces unless its in park or nuetral.. you could use the nuetral bypass plug for the manual... my other truck uses one and it will start and run but the reverse lights don't work because thats on the same plug...

as for the 203 i've never used them, always pull them out and stuff in a 205 and a good set of hubs.. am planning to seperate one for a gear reduction box..

The 3rd thing, I have the Milemarker kit in my 203 with Warn locking hubs and a twin stick. The shifter design used on the 205 along with rail design works great, however the 203 shifter is a POS. My setup works well and i get 2wd/lo. I still want to say goodbye to the chain and diff components so I will either straight swap for a 205 ( I have a small collection) or build a doubler using the range box from the 203 along with the205. This is not snag free but I got every angle covered

yeah I just sold my extra rebuilt 205 last fall. kicking myself in the back side for that now.

still wondering what I was thinking useing a rust free body for a plow truck.

76/77 F250 for a DIS ok that should speed up my trip to the parts store. thanks.
I thought they dropped the FE motor's for the "wonderfull" 351M/400 in 77 for the trucks but then again I havent gotten my hands on a highboy.

as for the tranny harness in the 76 it is cut & louped same as in my 77's. yes I know this isnt the right way to go about it. both trucks have kill switchs between the battery & starter and are now up under the dash (my kids are pretty smart). reverse light's? I dont even have bulbs in them never have prolly never will their pointless anyway thats what a pair of $20 walmart driving lights are for.

yea 77 was the swap over year so some 390s got stuffed it trucks to clear inventory, have even seen a couple 75s with electronic dizzy 390s....theres actually a factory plug that loops the system for the stick trucks, collected a few as spares... and you could wire the reverse if you wanted but here in oregon there not required so there low on my repair list..
