C6 to E4OD swap

Hey ya'll, my '89 F250 4x4 with the 460 has the C6 auto trans, which is a good trans from a reliability stand point, but not too god for the fuel mileage. I did a search but couldnt find anything, how hard of a swap would it be to change to the E4OD? I know that '89 the E4OD was an option on my truck, so in theory if I found one in a yard from a 460 4x4 would it just bolt right up and run the electronics, or is there more to it then that? Just looking for an easy way to increase the driveability of the truck. Thanks!

You'll probably need a new ecu, and your wiring harness might or might not have the provisions for the E4OD. The driveshaft could be shorter (at least the rear one, but I don't recall right now) Other than that, I'm not so sure what you might be needing. Getting a 94 or newer trans is adviced, because they were upgraded then.

Keep in mind the e4od is electronic controlled. And rebuilds are not cheap.

You'll need an E4OD computer, and you'll have to add quite a few wires to the ECU connector. I also believe that the E4OD is slightly longer than a C6.

95-96-97 E4ODs are the most desirable, with the 96/97 models being more so than the 95.

You can use a stand alone transmission controller to operate the E4OD.
