Transmission fluid leaking - 98, 2WD, Eddie Bauer
Been a while since I have had to post with an issue I didn't find an answer to already or was at least led in the right direction.
I did a usual maintenance weekend and replaced the oil and filter then moved to the tranny fluid and filter.
After enjoying my ATF bath and some other odd jobs and handed it off to my wife who came home a couple hours later after driving the expy and said it smelled funny. I took a peek under and smelled ATF and saw some drips. Back up on the driveway first thing in the morning to inspect - fluid was EVERYWHERE and it read way too full. So I assumed two things: time to retire the reusable gasket and I overfilled. So I dropped the pan and the liquid gold to inspect everything again and get the new gasket on. Checked all the bolts and holes - appeared fine. Refilled quart at a time and ran it until it showed right at the line for hot. Chalked it up to the previous and went for a test drive...drips after ~20 minutes of driving...
I went back under the vehicle and checked the torque on the bolts the leaks appeared at and they were a bit snug and brought them down and the leaks slowed...checked the fluid levels again and it was very full again. Could my leaks be fluid spewing from some other place? The seals all look fine and are clean. I am at a loss and have a family trip (only 3 hours) to take tomorrow morning - guess I need to bring a quart or two of ATF.
Any help will be more than appreciated - I feel sick to my stomach after the two days of meticulous work (and pain) to be done again - but not really.

as I fell asleep last night to the recurring vision of red liquid dripping from the pan I couldn't help but think that an overfill was the issue. After reading your post this morning and some research, I guess I either need to get the fluid out through the fill tube or by dropping the pan. Anything else I should consider? What are the repercussions of an overfill? (outside of a mess)
