Boost Leak You Would Never Expect!

so after i got my new riffraff billet intake plenums installed i fired up the rig and took her for a spin.....all seemed normal until i turned up my chip...was making 40-42 lbs of boost before now i was only hitting 35 at most....hmmm....seems i have a boost leak....i really wanted to believe in the plenums oring and was kind of bummed cuz naturally that was the new part so i was blaming them for the leak....got out my handy dandy dieselsite boost leak detector and holy crap! the spider clamps on the intake y were leaking big time....so was the connection from the turbo to the i/c pipe (i run an h2e)....got those fixed and wouldnt you know i found a boost leak i never would have imagined.....the plenums are not to blame by the way and they hold just fine......

you see the dimples right by the plug? thats where its leaking! ill be calling hypermax on tuesday to see what they have to say about it....yes its powdercoated and no it wasnt sandblasted so it definitely came that way from hypermax....

Looks like a casting flaw. I bet they have seen something similar to it before.

WOW....I am sorry to hear about your bad luck. I did not know that Bob sold a boost leak detector and good thing you had one to find that leak. So do you think it was leaking before you did the intake plenums too??

Well I am glad to see that they are a stand up company and that there was no issues. Besides someday I would love to get a hypermax set up for my truck.

Look very close at the Turbonetics kit, with the recent price drop its worth every penny...

Or you can just build your own!

Thanks I'll check into that. It will be a long time before I get there but I do know I want some kind of T4 set up. At this point it is just a dream but if MLK can have a dream so can this poor white boy.

Well the turbos are out there for $400-$800... A few weekends time with a mock up motor and a welder and you have a turbo kit... Hell I have seen many made with no bellows or flex at all hold up just fine.

In my kit less then $350 after selling the turbo and mount crap...
