I got this programmer yesterday and tried to install it today I hooked it up as described in the directions, it asks me for the model of this truck, and then it has me enter the VIN number. After entering the VIN number, it gives this error:

Vehicle Communication Error - Error reading file IDS during VIN write.

I have tried 5 times with the same result

Has anybody had this before with the edge CTS

 

Did you update it through your computer before trying to use it? I had to update mine first.

The truck is a 2003 7.3 auto, I have upgraded with a new unit form Edge from an old model edge Evolution which was about 5 years old.

I did put the truck back to standard before installing the CTS as the old unit was working fine I just wanted the gauges.

I did try and update the software but there was no update required

I have had good luck with getting help from Edge either online for general info or by phone to have them trouble shoot as I sorted it out with their help.

 

My evo didn't ask for anything. It did everything. Are you sure the one you have isn't for the 6.0? I have a old hypertech for a 6.0 and it ask for the vin but a old hypertech for the 7.3 doesnt

 

I have contacted Edge and been told that the CTS is not compatable with my Vin and I should find another 2003 7.3 VIN and try that I have requested them to send me a VIN to use as I don't have anywere to obtain one

I think the issue may be that in Australia we only got the F 250 that was built in Brasil all with the 7.3 up till 2006 model sold here

Which from what I can see on the net is the same as your 2003 model

Not sure maybe I can just make up a VIN ????
