Synthetic Motor Oil

I'm new to the Diesel game and this forum stuff, but have always believed in synthetic oil for my trucks. What is the general opinion of brands and what type of oil is best for these new engines???

You'll get a variety of different opinions, but I don't think you'll find a bad choice out there. As long as it's CJ-4 rated and of one of the recommended viscosities you should see a nice, long engine life.

I like Rotella T6 myself.

Thanks Tom, I have read a lot about the Shell oil and think it may just be the match I was looking for. How do Motorcraft filters stand up???

Motorcraft Filters are great, i opened up the FL2051 from my last oil change and it is well built, high quality. I wouldnt use anything else to be honest. As for oil I like full syn 5w40 Mobil 1 TDT, but hear lots of good stuff about the shell rotella t6 as well.

Wix is always a good filter choice. The SD6.7 uses Wix 57151.

You can easily find discounts on Motorcraft filters online. I buy mine from dieselfiltersonline.com. $11.95 each.

I use Mobil 1 Tubro diesel 5W - 40 and for a filter I'am using a Royal Purple filter p/n 40 -2051 is cost $ 23.95. I have used Royal Purple products on the rest of the cars and trucks and I have never had any problems. I do change the oil on the Superduty every 5000 miles....I also use in the Superduty .....Opti - Lube oil additive every oil change...
