I seem to be hovering in the 6-8 range but that's yankIng around a dump trailer that's nearly 4k empty. Shorts trips plus a decent load = nothing to brag about mpg wise. Pulls good though. Usually around 10ish unloaded no matter what and I'm not one to stomp the throttle. Best I've ever seen was 11.5 on a 250 mi highway trip. Dually doesn't help any.

My guess is getting rid of that chip will make the difference. Doing the maintenance will help too, depending upon what was done by the previous owner

Onug I removed the chip the second I got it home. The last tank I saw around 8.5-9 MPG hand calculated. Yesterday I cleaned my throttle body out, cleaned and reoiled my filter and cleaned my MAF sensor. I'm seeing a better idle and throttle response and better shifts.

One thing that could have caused the 4.5mpg calculation is the pump stopping early. I've had this happen on a recent roadtrip and it really screwed up the calculations for that particular tank. 4-5 gallons of gas won't register as much on the needle at the top of the gauge - the gauge sucks to say the least - but your needle will drop as soon as you get in it... Just the fact that it was at half with 10 gallons down from full should tell you how accurate that stupid thing is. It should have a 38gal tank if it's long bed, or a little smaller (32? 26?") for shortbeds.

Shortbeds are 29 gallon. I believe that was the culprit. These fuel gauges seem to suck in these trucks but it's not a biggy to me. I hand calculate every tank and it's gotten a little better each fill up

hanging brakes have hurt me in the past. replacing the caliper brackets along with the calipers seems to do the trick for me. parts guy told me the mounting holes egg out with use, I didn't really believe him till I pulled them off and eyeballed them.

motorcraft o2s worked best for me vs the bosch and no name I had.

good luck on your quest for double digits!

Congrats on the double digits. Now put some 235/85/16 pizza cutters on there and shoot for 20

Lie o meter told me 11.8. Hand o meter (or Road Trip app) told me 10.6 on a 200 mile highway trip @ 65mph. Headwind traveling east tailwind traveling west (and better mpg). I'll blame it on the dual rear wheels but need to check my calipers to make sure it's all good. Had an issue with one at purchase but hasn't had a problem since that day.
