Portable diesel filtration/water separator

Have you tried one of these, or another/better product.
My concerns are:
* Poorly stored cans/barrels of fuel.
* Bad/contaminated pump diesel five times in three years..

I am considering installing an in-line water separator on all of my vehicles.
It would be nice to assemble a small Portable diesel filtration/water separator that would fit in a car trunk for emergency's.

I'm not really sure what kind of truck your driving. I know the 6.0L (and up) have a water separator at the fuel "lift" pump (HFCM). Those funnels look like they'd make a mess, and I'm not convinced they'd keep the water from getting through. A good Racor water separator will do the job...again, not knowing what your driving I'm not sure how I'd recommend it's placement on your rig.

Answer

I want the water separation and filtering done before it goes in my fuel tank.

Sounds like you'd need a second fuel tank/fill spout to so that the fuel can be pumped through a Racor water separator. Like I said above, the I know the 6.0L up have the aquabloc filter membrane at the HFCM that does an excellent job of keeping water from getting to the injectors. Not sure if the 7.3L powered SuperDuties have that or not.

Sounds like you would need a secondary filling location to achieve what your asking as zhilton mentioned. I know there's been talk on the various boards about DIY versions that would install before or after the factory filter to help. There's even been talk about putting a drain in the tank at the lowest level to remove water at the tank rather then after.

Aghh, Ok I think I see what you mean. Your thinking something you can put on the nozzle during filling or something you can pump through as it goes into the tank. Then put aside until your next fill requirement. Do I have that right?

My point in this line of thinking...volume vs time to settle. Maybe I'm not looking all sides of this...but I'm thinking you need somewhere in the fuel system for the water to settle out of the fuel then a method to block it from going any further. I don't think those funnels will do it, but I'm more than willing to learn more about what your thinking.

Probably your best bet may be an AirDog or AirDogII at this time. But your looking at about $600 I believe. Though it can't hurt. Put it in line before the factory water separator I believe.

That is interesting, I will start watching auctions for a better price.

AirDogII - Google Search

Here is what most McParts stores have shown me.

I have been considering one of these

with a 12 Volt Diesel Transfer Pump

Yeah, I'm watching the prices as well.

The second link doesn't look much different then the factory water separator in functionality. Wonder if they are any better.

For on truck filtering/water separation of the fuel, pre-pump but after the tank, Driven Diesel 7.3L Fuel Tank / Pre-Pump Kit is what I have on mine.
