Your route to Truckstock

I'm posting this to help out the members that are going to or contemplating going to what has become unofficially "Truckstock" at Doc's place in KY. I think it would be great if we could meet along the way and form small convoys to Doc's. A convoy would offer a degree of comfort for us who are driving our old stock trucks.

What I would like posted here is your intended route to Doc's. Please do not post any comments or anything else that will clutter this thread. I want to keep this easy to search as possible by doing a simple scroll down. Any comments or suggestions can be posted on Doc's original post.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-together.html

If you can't post an actual image of the map of your route try to describe your route as clear as possible. Also, try to give us a date and time you will be leaving you home and maybe try to guestimate when and where you will be stopping along the way.

I also think, to keep the clutter down, if you see someone's route that might work for you that you contact them via emails and PMs, not in this thread. Again, trying to keep the clutter down.

One piece of information that I think would be good to post is if you see that you're near a route, and even if you're not going but are willing to offer some assistance if a FTEr who might need help along the way, please post your general information. Don't get real specific, no actual addresses or phone numbers, just your city or town. If you want to email or PM a member seeking or offering more specific information that would be great. We could individually compile a directory of people along our route that we could contact along the way if we need assistance. With everyone having cell phones and lap tops we could search this thread to find people along the way.

I'll start, this is my tentative route:

ADDED: I'll be driving my stock '49 F-2, it has the stock 6 cylinder and four speed. It is not a speed demon, top speed is about 45-50 mph. Just want to let every know. If you have a modified truck that can go expressway speeds you might get a little frustrated being behind me or waiting for me. I am going take my time and not beat my old truck.

This is an important consideration when planning to travel with another FTEr.

I will be traveling east on KY 80 from Somerset, KY to the event. If anyone has trouble going this way I have a car trailer to help. I am 115 miles west of Doc.

This is the most likely route that I will take from Cartersville, GA to Blackey, KY:

We'll probably drive up Friday morning the 14th and leave Monday morning the 17th (if that's OK with Doc). After we leave KY, we may try to loiter around in the Smokey Mountains that week so we can attend the TruckFest the following Friday and Saturday in Townsend.

PM me if you think you'll be traveling near this route and we can convoy up.

-DV

That's perfect Doraville. I've made that route from here to Knoxville many times. No doubt the best for you guys coming from Knoxville way in older vehicles. BUT be warned, you'll cross Pine Mountain at a place called Sand Hill then drive down a pretty narrow, curvy road before you finally reach my place. You'll enjoy the Cumberland Gap tunnel. It's a mile long.

I'm about 3 and a half hours north of Doc in northeast Ky. A little burg on the Ohio River. If I am still here and if your comming from the north and it's late or you just can't go on that day, I'd be willing to let ya sleep in the F1 cab. Or somewhere a bit more comfy. Up to you.

As for what route I will probably take US 23 South as far as Prestonsburg Ky. and then just feel my way.

Got off US 23 in Prestonsburg and get on Highway 80 headed toward Hazard (don't go all the way to Hazard). Exit highway 80 at Hindman, KY and take highway 160 all the way to Roxana, KY. When you cross the bridge over the KY River, turn right onto KY Highway 588. Then follow 588 about 2 miles to my driveway. Simple as that. This goes for any of you guys who would be coming from the Southeast Ohio region too.

Doc and I are going to work on a flyer to send out for everyone coming or contemplating coming. Seems there are few different ways to get to Doc's house and some better suited for an old stock trucks and some better for updated and modified trucks.

I'm also hoping to include information of interesting places to go and see. I always try to see one interest regional site whenever I travel some place I've never been to before.

As soon as we get the information sorted out I'll post a copy here and send it to anyone else who wants it.

I'll probably be leaving home around 8 am on Friday ( unless Doc wants me to come sooner to help) anyone coming from OH,Mich, Wisc, Ill, IN, west from St.Louis, according on which way you'll be traveling and when you would be in my general area if you come through Louisville Ky. or Cincinnati, Oh. if you need assistance or if we can caravan, 859-835-6207, Garry

I live just outside Lafayette, IN. It's clearly marked along Bob's route on his map. I (and hopefully my co-pilot and Jordan in his truck, too) will be rolling out of Lafayette sometime Friday morning. My exact route is flexible and quite frankly depends on whether I have time to refine the truck or if it's a last minute thrash to get it thrown together. If it drives decent and there are others wanting to go that way, I'd be willing to take the interstate. If not, I'd be inclined to take the scenic route with Bob.

One of the great things about DocStock is that I am suddenly realizing how many FTErs are in the midwest. Sometimes its easy to forget there are others nearby that have the same addiction/affliction. Here is my route:

Here is my tentative route. Not a whole lot of choices out west; I really, really do not want to drive the Highway of Death, I-40 to Amarillo. So I'll stick to older US Hwys, in this case US 160 a large part of the way.

Damn it's a long way!
