Auto trans. linkage broken, help!

Haven't I stated I HATE messing with wiring? no?, the I DO, I HATE IT... Now, upon visual inspection, nothing seems out of place, I used some diagrams and already have an idea of the cables that could be causing the issue, they are the three cables that plug into the lever for the winshield wipers/washer. There is an orange cable, a maroon/white cable and a blue/white cable. I tried testing them but I got nothing (I wasn't very sure as what to look for).
I'm also very sure that even if the insulation looks fine the cables could be severed. This was because they held the weight of the column briefly when I was repairing the shifter. Come to think of it, I'll use some cable segments to bypass the section where I think the cable (or cables) failed and see if that corrects the problem, if that's so, then that will solve my problem.
P.S.: Sometimes just speaking your mind in here help you find solutions... great!
P.S.2: Does anyone know which kind of cable should I try? 14? did I mention i'm very ignorant regarding wiring?.

Ok... tested the 3 wires, all three show continuity, I peeled a little portion of the insulation on each one and then I tested using that spot and the connector on each one. I'm sure it isn't the switch (lever), since it worked perfectly before I worked on the shifter. And the turning signals and high beams work. I have to get a headlight switch at an spares shop this week, I'll try a new lever, but I suspect it's those wires, they're messed further down the harness... That would mean taking down the dash for further testing... and would depress me. Any other ideas?.

I never posted back here, anyway, the cause of the nonfunctional wipers was the internal governor, which was disconnected. It's located under the dash, on the passenger side, behind the glove box. Easy fix, you just have to get the glove box out of the way. Apparently I unplugged it when I started to repair the shifter tube/cable (I was under the wrong impression that all the dash had to be removed). I just plugged it back and now everything works again, thanks guys.
