Question Advise for Buying Used 2005 F150?

Hello All, It's time i sell my '78 F150 regular cab and get something bigger to haul my family. I'm looking at some 2005 F150 supercab or supercrew models. I'd prefer v8. I've done some simple google and FTE forum searches and came across quite a few people having engine probs with their 2004 trucks. Are the 2005 F150s good? Any major recurring issues i need to be made aware of? Thanks in advance. (FYI, my laster newer truck was a '97 F150 that was great.)

Well my advice is not to buy one... In almost any case with cars the first few years they are shaking down the bugs. 2008 being the last year that would make it the "peak" of how good that body style can get. If you can't afford a newly used 5.0 f150 or the '09 '10 5.4 aim for the newest you can afford.

There is absolutely no telling with a used truck.

Good luck.

I have a 05 FX4 Supercrew with almost 80K miles on it. I had Champion Sparkplugs installed at 60K. Not because there was anything wrong with the truck, but because of the motorcraft plug worries. Why people know it's a plug design problem and put the same exact plug back into their truck i'll never understand. Anyway, No problems since the Champions were installed. No IWC problem. No COP problem. The truck runs smooth and quiet. I replaced a bad driver side door switch. It took 5 minutes to swap out. I also replaced a rear brake light. These are the only issues I've had with the truck. Maybe I lucked out? Who knows?

If you buy an 04' or 05' see if you can get the history on the truck before you purchase it. Or have a mechanic check it out. Other than that, whatever truck you buy, enjoy!

crud. now ya'll got me thinking about a used 2008 instead. I cant beleive the prices on these newer trucks. it seems insanely high. Am i the only one thinkin that? I bought my '97 f150 when it was 2 yrs old and i dont recall it being so darned expensive.

I agree.... However, looking at bright side, our trucks hold it's value well, doesn't it?
Well.... the new trucks are priced outragely, so it impacts the used truck values.

When I lost the engine in my 2007 (my fault) I looked at the new 5.0. The cheapest 4x4 5.0 was 32,800 before tax... They sure are proud of their trucks. Oh well.
