New To The Forum and Need Some Advice

Hello,

I am new to the forum and am needing some advice.

Here is my question:

We currently own a 1994 Ford F-150 2WD XLT Super Cab shortbed truck with matching cap. It has the 5.0 motor and automatic transmission.

We bought the truck about 10 years with 107,000 miles on it. It now has 180,000 miles on it.

I would really like to do some repairs on the truck, but I am not sure whether or not it is worth it.

Here is what I would like to do:

Put 4 new tires on the truck - $500 for the tires that I am wanting. This would include balance and mounting.

Repair the rust on the truck - I would like to replace the rear wheel wells and cab corners as they are rusted out. I got an estimate from a local body shop and they gave me a price of $2000.

New exhaust system - The exhaust system itself is about $450 and I am sure it would be another $100-$150 for someone to install it.

So, overall, I am looking at a cost of about $3000 in repairs.

So, I guess I have 2 questions. How far can these 5.0 motors go for as far as mileage and do you guys think that the truck is worth putting $3000 in it for repairs?

Thanks!

i would have to say it all depends on how much you like the truck. the 500.00 in tires is not too bad. i would go to a muffler shop and get a quote to do a cheap exhaust, i wouldnt put a stainless steel on it but i would think you could get one for less than 300 installed. as far as the body work that isnt a bad price. so for 3000 or less i would say that you would get another 70,000 miles plus out of the truck if it has been well maintained.

This is really your decision, You know your truck and its condition and reliability better than anyone. That being said, you have had it for 10 years and have averaged 7,300 a year. So your not putting a lot of miles on it . For me if I was in your shoes I would do it. Tires and Exhaust are just regular maintenance you will do on anything unless you get a "brand new truck"
( more on that later ) . Rust and bodywork on a 18 year old truck is not unusual . You are paying for parts and labor ,I would do it. These trucks taken care of have given me two decades of reliable service in my 92 Nite. I just wonder how many new trucks will give you that. But then again your asking me about this generation of Ford Tough Trucks is like preaching to the choir. Hope this help's ... '92

Thanks for the feedback guys! The truck was my dad's and since he really does not use it anymore, he is going to sell it to me. The truck is pretty important to me as it brings back a lot of good memories for me and I have always liked the truck. So, with that being said and considering the fact that I should be able to get another 70,000 miles out of it, I think that I will go ahead and do the repairs to it.

Thanks Again!
