I have an 03 5.4l, eddie bauer expedition. I started to notice an oil spot on my driveway. So I got underneath my vehicle and saw oil drips coming from the front of the rear differential. I am assuming thay the seal needs to be replaced and possibly the bearing. My question is....hoe difficult are those to change or how mich would the dealer charge to fix it.
One other question, can I replace just the seal or do I need to replace the bearing as well? I found a bearing and seal kit from Autozone but just dont know if I should spend $300 on a kit if all I have to do is replace the seal.
You can replace the pinion seal and leave the bearing alone. You will need an impact wrench. Be sure to mark everything. Check on youtube, there's a couple of good videos on how to do it.
