First thread... 1976 F100 Flareside *HAVE PICS!

Hi there everyone. I think this is actually my first post. Been lurking for a while now and finally decided to make a thread/post my truck. Recently acquired a few months back and have been wanting to drop some money into a slight restore. Or should i let it go to try for an older one? i really love the looks of the 2nd and 4th gen f100s but cannot really find any in my state that are flareside.

But anyway, here is my new toy that im lovin so far.

its an auto 360 V8 RWD

i would love some ideas shot off at me, as well as color ideas too or if i should just get my color touched up

*i do have the horn rubber cover thingy, but i cant figure out how to get it on. Haha. Also, ignore the ACH and random comics.

Hi, and welcome to the board! I think your truck looks great. When it comes to color, it is all a matter of preference. I think the brown looks very nice. If you think it needs a little care, just try buffing it out really well and make your decision after that. I have seen some pretty rough paint come to life after a few hours of elbow grease. Some people also don't care for chrome, but I think it looks great against a dark color like brown or black. You could try some simple rims or a chrome rear bumper, but like I said, it is all a matter of preference. Regardless, you have a GREAT place to start with whatever you decide to do with it. Congratulations!

Yea i was supposed to do some slight work on it today, but am stuck doing some training online that is consuming an immense amount of time.

My wife does want me to keep the original color as it has some pretty cool sparkle to it. (LOL) I do like the chrome and i would love to replace the rear bumper to match the front.

Need to find some good rims to go along with it. Been considering a 3" drop or lift. Havent quite decided yet.

Thanks

I think what he is saying, is those mirrors are usually on a larger truck, F250, F350 hauling large objects/campers etc. Same with the spare tire on the front and not under the bed, just doesn't seem to fit the F100.

But on the up swing, I think you have a really nice looking truck. I would give that paint job some serious elbow, and I believe you will be pleased with it. Your right, that color has plenty of flake in it so its doesn't look flat. I kinda like the original wheels that are on it, only thing I would give them is a buff job and some tire spray.

Lastly, welcome aboard you got yourself a nice looking dent, and I don't think you will have a big battle to have anice looking/running dent side for yourself.

Nice truck man. That color looks like what was on my Dad's '77 LTD back in the day. If it is, it does have some sweet metal flake when shined up.

OOh. yea, the inside on the glove compartment says "custom" so maybe its a custom thing?

the older guy i bought it from said he kept it as stock as he could. and it sure seems that way from when i got it.

oh, yes, the paint job does have flakes in it. i will most definitely prob do some work on it tomorrow morning

They are for trailer towing or camper hauling. IMO They overwhelm the doors and would look better without the scaffolding.

I like the swing locks. That's what mine has (79 F150 Shortbed).

Here's a good thread on them.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...rs-1979-a.html

I ordered a set from the eBay listing and they are 100% OEM Cherry.

You should probably stow the tire back underneath or in the bed or something because that does seem a bit odd.

One thing I might mention that if this was custom ordered and a one off in this configuration it might be a good thing to keep it that way.

Having a unique odd ball is pretty cool too.

Check the VIN/Warranty tag. If the order code is only 2 digit it was either done by the dealer after delivery or an owner after purchase. If it has a 4 digit code it might have been special ordered that way.

Welcome to FTE! That's a sweet ride.

I'm not a fan of the aftermarket "JC Whitney style" trailer mirrors. As mentioned above, I'd also move the spare back to where it belongs.

If that is a Ford steering wheel, the horn pad will have two spade connectors for the electrical, and two screws that screw in from the back side (front of the vehicle).
