with my 3.55s, i top out at 82. just think what the 3.08s would do. a little quick math says 94.5, now that would get you a decent ticket

3.55 geared sterlings/d70's can be had for about $100 american around here on craigslist, you could buy one, and then pull your existing rearend and do the swap in a day, and sell the 4.10 rearend, and basically have a free gear swap...

Well I installed a new Rad Cap, and upper rad hose today, and new Sunpro water temp gauge.

She runs right on 190* highway or intown. If I let it idle more than 2 min, temp starts cooling down under 190*

And bad news......

Found my oil leak.... and it isn't "only" the oil cooler. It's the drivers side head gasket! The back half, is seepin oil down the block. Leaking a quart every 150 miles... so it's pretty bad.

So now I'm gonna continue driving it as is, and see what I do.....I really don't feel like doing head gaskets in a van....again, especially not in this thing.

To bad it wasn't a 7.3L. It would probably be the oil plug on the back of the head. They are known to leak.

Will the oil cooler on the trucks fit the 86 Vans? I ask this cause when mine went out I found one for fifty bucks but didn't get it because it looked different. I had it welded up in stead. Thanks,
I didn't know the 6.9L had the oil plugs? I thought it was for the HPOP on the powerstrokes. Mite want to make sure it isn't that thats leaking then.

Oil plug or not, mine clearly runs down the block from the head gasket.

I'm going to shampoo the engine, then run it abit more to confirm where it's coming from, and go from there.

Well, I filled my front tank up to the brim last week and I have put about 125 miles on it since. I am at 3/4 of a tank according to my fuel gauge. I estimate getting a maximum of 250 miles out of this tank of fuel and that is being generous. Let's assume it uses 18 gallons of fuel. That comes out to about 13.8MPG. I did idle it for at least an hour and a half while I have been dick'n around with my A/C system but still, look at the specs on my truck. I have 3.55s, E4OD, Banks Sidewinder, new IP and injectors, dynamically timed and fuel only turned up one flat (minimum that Banks recommends). I have been driving mixed, about 50/50 Hwy and city. I used to get around 16MPG when it was N/A with winter fuel. I haven't been stomping on it, either; well maybe 2 or 3 times just to get up to speed. It will run like a scalded dog, though.

maybe we need to find a source of good used engine oil, filter it, and run a mix in the fuel. It works well in my Benz.

I don't like the idea off running oil in the fuel, any oil for that matter, oil burns hotter, causing higher EGT's....

Not by much. I have yet to run it in my truck but I have done a few tanks of 50/50 oil and Diesel in the Mercedes without any ill effects. Granted, I don't have an EGT gauge on my car but even if it raises EGTs 100F, a normally operating and tuned IDI shouldn't be affected because it shouldn't be running anywhere near max EGTs.

With turbo and fuel turned up on my truck, I have seen a max of 450F EGT and that is pedal to the floor, hitting the governor up a hill and holding on for dear life. I was not towing anything but I have plenty of leeway before I hit the 1100F max.

Worst case scenario is you need to advance the timing, set the injectors to a slightly higher pop pressure and reduce the fuel delivery. The used oil has longer carbon chains, so it takes slightly more time for them to burn efficiently, thus advanced timing by a few degrees is recommended.

Once I get to the point of burning more than a gallon or so of UMO in my truck, I will write an article about the results.
