1992 e150 exhaust question?
well as mentioned in other areas I have been repairing and getting my 1992 e150 road worthy we finished up with trany and engine for the moment. and have moved onto the brakes. well we ran the van for a country drive to see if the engine and trany where done and we lost the exaust system. Yes I was still smiling at least the trany worked and does not need rebuilt.
So I am replacing the exhaust system from the catalytic converters back. I went ahead and ordered the new pipes bent to factory specs and ordered an after-market throw away muffler that meets factory specs (Supposedly) here is my question.
once I my budget allows for an exhaust system upgrade. is there a muffler that will help increase MPG and not destroy normal performance?
Keep in mind I am not 20 anymore so I am not looking for a loud, obnoxious, or cool sounding exhaust. Just better fuel economy.
oh the e150 has a 351w and an e40d engine trans combo if that makes a difference
thanks for any help

A WickedFlow Max is a straight through muffle that has a QUIET mellow sound. I use these on my own vehicles, and have been very satisfied. They do not restrict exhaust flow, and they control drone.
Realistically though, you are not likely to see much economy gain from an exhaust upgrade, your aerodynamics define most of your fuel economy. Not saying a free flowing muffler won't help, but in reality, it just doesn't make a lot of difference to economy unless the old muffler was genuinely restrictive. To maximize economy, stay light on the throttle, keep your tires properly inflated and aligned, follow speed limits, etc.

thank you for the information.... since it willl have no significant impact I will probably just look for quiet...
I did manage to get the time today to cut of the bad pipe and install the muffler and tail pipe connect all the hangers and put the muffler clamps on as tight as I could this evening we are going to my son in law who has a full shop so we will hit the clamps with an impact to get a real good seal check for any other leaks and hopefully call the exhaust done for now
