COP boots

I've gone round and round with what I thought were COP failures. I've had the COPs replaced, but still have problems,

Does a new COP come with a new boot? Could bad boots be causing my problems?

Anyone got a picture of the boot? Source?

None of my supposedly bad COP had any sign of the leakage that is supposed to be so common.

Every COP I have bought came with a new boot. A bad COP boot will cause coil problems. If one boot is bad, it is best to replace all the boots as they by themselves are not very expensive. I found 2 bad coils on my '99 at 75K and I subsequently replaced all the boots with new. 25,000 miles later and still no problems.

Napa sells just the boot. Belkin brand.

What does one look like? These are from a 2005 3 valve V10. Yours are a little different shape I believe.

I'm right now in the middle of a plug change and dealing with the fallout of broken plugs from carbon buildup.

Hope this helps

Your 2001 boots will look a little different but the photos will give you a general idea.

Boots provide a seal preventing water and other debris from falling into the spark plug hole. It also insulates the hot wire grounding out against the head.

I've gotten a few different brands of boots over the years. Standard brand held up great, and I recently bought Autozone ones that looked identical to the Standard brand. Which looked identical to the Motorcraft.

Just use dielectric grease where it seals against the plug, and the cop, and around where it seals to the head.
