I got the 15"x8" rim. I paid $100 each for the rims, plus shipping. My next set of tires I want 37x12.5xr15 Superswamper Irok radials. If I got any bigger than 37's I go to a 18" rim.
I still might get the cepeks, the ones i found were 115$ each, and i dont have a whole lot of money, so ill probably get the MB wheels for 85$ each.
I hear ya. Thats the reason I stayed with the 15" rims. I got $1200 tied up in the rims and tires. I would have had $2200 if I went with a 18" rim and 35's.

Ya upgrading rims gets costy. Im gonna stick with 16x8. I too want super swampers except i want the thornbirds, but at more than 400$ a tire compared to the 245$ 35 inch BFGs, ill get the bfg's for now lol

Thornbirds are junk. They really aren't as aggressive as they look. If you want some aggressive Interco tires, I'd suggest the Super Swamper TSL SX or the Iroks. Why do you want to put any amount of high dollar mud tires on a 2wd? If you're just puttin them on to have mud tires, stick with something cheap and effective.
I will disagree on the thornbirds ability. I had 2 sets. NEVER got stuck, not once. 4ft snow drifts to over 3' of mud(not muddy water, but MUD). Them tires just clawed thru it all
The 1st set I got almost 30k on them. the second set was the 1st set from the new mold(about 7-8 years ago) and they wore so fast it wasnt funny. BALD in 6k
I've never had any luck getting them to grab anything to get unstuck. But they really do burn up fast. A buddy of mine was burning a set up in 1 summer on his pulling truck just running through the sand and clay tracks. He uses the Trxus STS now though with good results and longevity.

I like the way the thornbirds look and i have heard good things bout those tires. And i can easily get a 2wd truck to beat a 4x4, all prerunners are 2wds. Now i havent ruled out a 4wd conversion neither but im fine with 2wd
Anything with side wall tread is going to pull in the mud, the bigger the lugs the better the pull. Its pretty hard to beat a 4x4 when its got a locking rear axle and a lsd front axle. Esp when you get somewhere where you have to crawl and take it slow.
Also a 2wd to 4x4 conversion isn't hard. It will be more expensive for you, because you will probably want a Dana 60, instead of a Dana 44HD
Exactly. Unless it is high speed desert type racing, 4wd will go 200times more places than a 2wd. And still a 4wd will do the high speed stuff, just it will have to do it a lil slower is all
The average gear change is $500-800. That is parts and labor. If you have never done it before, leave it to the profesionals
And prices on parts have gone up (like everything else) over the past few years. Setting up your own gear sets isn't impossible for the novice, a good friend of mine taught me how to do it. I have built dozens of axles since then, the more you do the better you get at it. All the gear install kits I have seen come with a pretty decent little instruction book. They show you how to set the pinion depth, backlash, and pattern... they also have illustrations on proper gear patterns. It's definately not something ANYONE can do though.

My friends 01 Chevy 2500HD 8.1 with 8 inch lift and 38s toyo mud tires went ALOT further than his dads 05 Cummins with 4 inch lift and 35s, so from what i saw its possible, either way im gonna most probly do a 4wd conversion.
