pOWer steering.....
my steering....... um......... well sometimes it works sometimes i work. the brakes work fine so the pump is good rite?
does that meant the steering box is bad? my 99 had 38/15.50s and turned fine. this one has 33/12.50 and most of the time i work.
i found a steering box on cl for 30$ but its from a obs. will they interchange?

I just installed my RedHead gear box today. Only took it on a little dirve since, but it feels alot better. Easier to turn tighter steering with no play. Only thing I think I am going to have to take the pitman arm back loose at least I think I am a half turn off. Probalby move the arm 8 splines in the right direction and it should be fine. Works for now though

I had the same symptoms with mine. I had the most difficulty while applying brakes and turning at the same time, but my steering was never real easy and it sometimes pulsated. I replaced the pump and all is well. That doesn't mean that's absolutely it, but the pump worked for me.

Try this before you change anything. How long has it been since you changed the tranny fluid in your power steering pump? If you're like most of us, never until it acts up. Use a high quality synthetic tranny fluid too. These pumps use tranny fluid, not power steering fluid. Also, are your tires aired up to where they should be? Does it get easier if you take your foot off the brake pedal? You may need a new pump or a new gear box, but I would do/check these things first.

I dunno... Jerry's Auto Supply has the best reputation in town and that's where I go for off-the-shelf stuff like this.
This makes good sense. Tranny fluid breaks down from time and heat, and 9-13 years is a long time.

I ran the hose into a clear jug, and I was shocked at how black the fluid was. I had the front on jackstands when I did mine, and I would turn the wheel from lock to lock, then hit the brake pedal. When you hit the brake pedal is when it would pump the fluid out. I would hit it a couple or 3 times, then fill the pump up and do it again. Just kept doing that until I saw clean fluid running into the jug. If I remember, I used about 3.5 or 4 quarts to flush the system.
