next step for 59ab

HELLO NEW TO SITE PLEASE HELP

I HAVE A 47 COE WITH ALL THE ORIGINAL PARTS AS IT WAS PARKED IN LATE 60'S( JUST RUSTY) I HAVE PULLED THE PLUGES AND THE MOTOR TURNS OVER EASY BY HAND. MY QUESTION IS , SHOULD I TRY TO START IT BEFORE LOOKING UNDER THE HEADS. BEING THERE WAS SOME RUST ON SOME VALVES . BUT NO WATER IN THE OIL OR CYLNDERS .

WHAT IS THE NEXT BEST STEP.

THANKS
ROSS

ross, put about an ounce of atf-automatic trans fluid-in each cyl. spin it over half a dozen times, let it sit at least overnite. this will loosen up any "crud" around rings. make sure the oil is clean, then, IF nothing else concerns you---fire it up! keep an eye on oil pressure. if guage does not work on truck, hook one up direct to engine---you need to know there is pressure. good luck!
