Tow package withOUT Tow Mirrors??

Been looking for a new-to-me X and came across a 2001 Limited. The seller's description says it has the tow package, but it doesn't have the tow mirrors, which makes me suspicious. I know the tow mirrors can be added (I see where the '08-'10 are the "best").

So, was it possible in 2001 to have the tow package with the tow mirrors? Other years too?

What else did the tow package entail? I'm guessing gearing (3.73 or higher), trans cooler, oil cooler...anything else? Thanks.

My 05 Limted 4x4 has the factory tow package installed, it's on the factory sticker that way, but had the smaller sport mirrors. 6 years ago, only the 05/06 model year larger mirrors were available, so I made the leap to install them. It was pretty pricey all said and done, painted to match ($850.00), but worth it. If i had waiting until the 08 model year, I would have gone with those, i really like that folding feature.

YES, you could order the Xs that way. I did! I have no idea why now! They only have the sport mirrors instead of the tow mirrors. If you buy the factory or factory replacement mirrors, they will plug and play and take about an hour to change. The tow package was as you described, however one of the most popular mods is to replace the tranny cooler with a 6.0L cooler. Just a couple of brass fittings and some high temp hoses and you can do it pretty easily.

Thanks for the info. Since posting I found a website (thanks FTE) that decoded the VIN and provided the vehicle options, which include the tow package and sport mirrors. I think I'll be replacing those.
