The pan is a good thick pan so I think it could be done. There's also a quick drain...forget the name right now...that is sold on the aftermarket for just that purpose.
That's it, I couldn't think of the brand name but knew it started with an F...they are a popular item on larger V8 engines and drivetrains and apparently not too hard to install if you know how to use the blue wrench.
