2003 Expedition, No wipers, no hi beams. Turn indicators work fine.

HELP!

2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer 2x4

Weird.... Turn indicators work fine, but i have no hi beams or wipers or wash.
No bad fuses.
I don't hear any relays click when i turn on wipers or beams.
is it time for a new switch?
how would I test for power at the switch to see if it is getting that far?

Sometimes tilting the wheel down tugs on the wiring going to the switch and breaks the retainers on the connectors. Remove the steering column shroud and make sure everything is plugged in tight to the switch.

Any ideas what might cause hi beams AND front and back wipers/washers to stop working at the same time?

The common point is the control module there on the steering column. If disconnecting the battery won't reset it you'll probably end up replacing the module (turn signal lever switch...). Does the "Flash to Pass" feature work ? (The momentary high beam flash...)
Does the emergency flashers work ?

Turn signals work. Hazard works. But not any wipers or hi beams. The ONLY thing that is working is the turn signals and hazards.
So I might be able to reset by disconnecting the battery! That would be too good to be true! I'll try it!

Another question. ...... is it normal for the lever or arm to spring in when you push it into the column? If I push in on it, like I'm trying to push it deeper into the center of the column, it pushes in and springs back. My 1997 Exp. is firm and doesn't do that at all.

Hey Hamfisted, I found a switch on ebay for about $30. Would you think it's worth a try? I do trust Rock Auto. Just trying to save a buck if I have to go that way.

No, the turn signal lever should not push in at all. I think you found your problem.
Those switches on Ebay may work fine. They're cheap enough you could buy three of them for the price of a Motorcraft switch. Give it a try. Some of them have the same 24 month warranty as Motorcraft anyway.

Hey Mike,
Sounds good! I am actually going to see if I can find one at pick a part here locally. Will only be $16.00! I think they are the same from 2003 to 2006. Anyway, it's worth a try. I'll check it over good if I can find one there. Otherwise I'll order a cheapo from Amazon or Ebay.
Will keep you informed. Maybe post pictures of the repair. If I can figure that out! Lol! Thanks for the encouragement!

Got the new multiswitch. Beams and signals work fine. Still no wipers or washers front or back. Strange.....

Was it a Motorcraft multifunction switch you installed ? You checked fuses 1 , 38 , 113 and they were all good ? Maybe some of those Ebay multifunction switches aren't truly compatible, I don't know, I always use Motorcraft parts. Do you have a multi-meter ? Might be time to start probing.

From his post it is a junkyard switch. Might not have been the best way to save $14.

No, it wasn't a Motorcraft or a used switch. It is a new aftermarket part. I'm confident that it is correct and functional. I think that the power is not there. Next thing is to probe with a multimeter and a test light to determine where the break is in the circuit. Too much of a coincidence that BOTH wires and BOTH washers aren't working. I think there must be a break in the circuit someplace. I hope it will become obvious as I start probing.
