No ties to me and two states away, but it definitely got my attention. Somebody ought to go check this thing out!

Thanks for putting that one up, Doc. If I needed another project I would sure look at it. Way back, I mean way back when, my dad was founding treasurer of the local volunteer fire co and they purchased one just about like that. I remember the board discussing whether to get the six or eight and the arguments for each. The six won out, more torque where you needed it, and it broke this kids heart. I remember he and the board anguishing over writing the check. I also remember how it sounded when the muffler was removed

Fire trucks are generally very good if they've been garaged and most have been. That one looks like it has been outside for a while. Low mileage and good maintenance usually add up to a good vehicle. Patch a few holes, paint and enjoy..

A hundred bucks says the guy "traded for it a while back". And, you're right, it will rot to the ground right where it stands if somebody doesn't rescue it soon. Look at that list of sponsors on the back of it. Somebody took care of it not too far in the past. Another clue that it hasn't been there a terribly long time is the fact that the grass isn't horribly thick under it. The South Carolina sun and rain will have their say shortly.

I'd guess the thrill of owning a fire truck, and getting to hit the siren during annual parades, wore off after those sponsors realized there was a continuing financial commitment to keep it in operating shape. You've got to have the dedication of someone like Chicago Fire Patrol to keep one of those big boys on the road.

Don't worry about the go carts at Myrtle Beach too much. They're pretty tame and kind of boring. But, whatever you do, make sure you check out this crazy guy when you go to Broadway at the Beach! He is the owner of that shop. Stands there pretty much every day of the year and throws insults and just acts goofy. He's absolutely hilarious. I wonder how many times some crazy redneck has tried to beat him up.
