65 F100 Vin Question
I purchased a 65 f100 when I lived in NC. I have since moved to Ohio and need to get an Ohio title. When I checked the Vin on the title which is 710DE6631731 against the door plate which reads F10DE663173 I saw there was a difference. I wrote to NC to get a corrected title, but they replied that the vehicle (which had originally had a SC title) had the correct vin number. They included a copy of the SC title showing the same Vin number as the NC title. I have been looking on the passenger side frame for a number, but haven't found anything yet. I'm new to the forum, so I would appreciate any help. I need to have the NC title match the truck vin in order to title it in Ohio.
Thanks,
Tom L.

Good morning and welcome to the FTE. I would write back to NC and tell them, no, their VIN on the Title was incorrect because the number is one digit to long. As for the vin on the frame it should be located on the right frame rail between the shock mount and the fwd crossmeber and one also under the cab on the same frame rail.

There appear to be 2errors on your title. The door plate (F10DE) would be correct for a 65 truck. "710DE" clearly is not. Then there's the extra digit (1) added on at the end. You have been victimized by a state government minimum wage typist who didn't give a stuff about accuracy. As the previous poster has said, your VIN is stamped in two locations on the TOP SIDE of the PASSENGER SIDE frame rail. One is under the cab and not too easy to get to unless you're doing a cab off restoration. The other is approximately 30 inches back from the front end of the rail (where the front bumper attaches). You will probably need a wire brush and paint remover to find it. When both your frame rail and door plate VINs match, take your truck (if it's driveable) to your nearest Ohio DMV location and hope that there is someone reasonable there who will note the obvious error from Carolina and grant you a title. Maybe call them first and explain the situation - after you have uncovered the matching VIN on the frame rail. Good luck!
