I want those smooth shifts!!
Sorry about the dealership location... WA is a bit of drive from NJ.

As for your shifts, it's just a tune thing. Make careful note of where all your hard shifts occur - throttle position (Light, Medium, Heavy acceleration) and which shifts: 1-2, 2-TQLU at about 35 MPH, and TQLU to OD at about 45 MPH. Tell DP tuner where and when each crunch occurs and they can get it a lot closer the next time around. Since I have the convenience of the F6 chip (like you), we just kept at it until he nailed it. Live tune by proxy... gotta love it.

Got it, OK that is exactly what I will do, hopefully I wont be needing the HD trans anytime soon.

Sorry for the tread jacking.

If it is just the front seal, you can drop the transmission and replace the front seal. That is actually a pretty common issue on the E4OD and the 4R100's.

I have the HD4R100 and have had no issues with it. You may call up Tousley Ford and see what kind of deal they can swing. Even with shipping it may be cheaper.

I was turned onto the HD4R100 by John Wood when mine died and I needed a replacement quickly. JW told me it was a good candidate and was similar to his Towmaster. With his recommendation I went to the dealer and bought it (they didn't have any knowledge of it at the time and was the first time they had heard about it).

This should give you the P/N information you need.

Need to watch out though. It may be different now but I was told that if the ford dealer didn't install it the warranty would be void.

Just left my ford dealership and gave service manager my vin # he said there is no different transmission for my ex. It maybe because of its an ex and also he ran it by vin. Does anybody know the part number for the Hd4r100 for a 2001. Thanks

My wife has the HD4R100 in her Excursion... Been great for over 100k now. 20k with AC's and 38R, almost its entire life with the 38R and tunes.

Good tranny for a fair price IMHO.

I just noticed the other day I have a PTO trans in my truck!

Trans Faailure

Your fluid leak is from the trans front seal that gets weak when it gets hot. Then it pukes fluid.

I had a buddy working for me and his did the same thing. We drained it, filled it with synthetic fluid and it has held up for the past 5 years.

The front seal leaking does not mean your trans is going, just that the seal is weak. Of course, running a trans with low fluid will kill it.

Thanks , now I can go educate the dealership. For those that have it. Is it a big difference over stock on the take off? I know if I tune it it will void the warranty( I know i know the big 2 don't) so I am wondering if I need to leave it off for a while. But it's just so slow on the take off. Lol

IMHO it has a horrible valve body set up. Shift flare up the wazzo. A good BTS or like valve body would work wonders!
