Hello guys,

Yesterday, I decided to replace my ac compressor on my 79 F150. After the compressor, drier were installed and all my lines cleaned out I began to recharge my system with freon. As I started my ac as soon as the ac clutch would kick on my truck would die. I also noticed high pressure on my guages like there is a restriction somewhere. Like I mentioned I did clean out all the lines. One thing I did notice is that the compressor came with oil from the parts store but I had already added 8 oz extra without knowing. Could this be the problem? I managed to get rid of some of the oil by deppresuring the system but not sure if I should drain ut all and start over. Any advise? Thanks

 

I'm no A/C expert, but it sounds like you've got too much oil and it's causing your compressor to hydraulically lock up. I'd drain the oil and start over.

Did you check the orfice tube?
Is this a NEW compressor?
8 OZ is alot but most of the excess should be sucked up by the desicant in the drier.

 

New compressor and did not check the orifice tube. Is there anything I need to check in particular? Thanks

 

I did notice that when the system was deppresured and some of the oil removed the truck did not stall anymore when the ac was turned on. Now the only problem is high pressure on my ac guages while trying to charge system.

 

The orfice tube is like a filter and can get clogged. It should be in the hard line going into the evap. I think. Never had to change one. YET.
