Going auto

So, solenoid replacement worked like a charm, but now the ignition is stuck on 'start', so that should be here in a couple days from LMC... Anyway, I decided to go with a C4 in lieu of replacing the clutch and installing a new shifter/ linkage on the 3 speed. The local transmission shop quoted $550 including installation, labor and parts for a rebuilt c4, 1 year warranty on parts and labor, and the tow to his shop. In the Dallas / Ft Worth area, is this a good deal? Iv found used c4's for 2-300 in questionable shape with obviously no warranty, figure for about 600 out the door I'l be better off. Can i get some opinions?

Thanks,
Ken

Well i don't know of ANY C4 that will bolt behind a FE engine.... you will need a C6 or a COM
"cruz-0-Matic"

i had a C6 rebuilt a few months ago, i supplied the trans and it came with a reman torque converter. all for 525.00

c-4's were installed behind the 300-6. durability was/is a problem... the front housing is different from the v-8 housing. so it may be better to get the more popular and durable c-6..

Any major price difference on a rebuilt c6? I'd seen on an older thread folks saying a c4 or cruise o mastic would be better, that the c6 drained horse power. Not that I care for it to be a racer or anything, just wanna not bog down if iv got a bed full of bark mulch or something.

i would think peeps were talking about a C6 behind a 302 or SBF, i would look for a C6... just remember you will prolly have to modify your drive shaft and all the little things add up quick!
