Summer/Fall GTG?

Figure it's about time to start the discussion...about putting some thought to another GTG. I know at the last one...there was some mumblings to maybe another camping type of GTG. Since I've pretty much got every weekend off (the boss works every other) I'm open to ideas for the date/location.

If you want somewhere cool, mine as well wait until October then. I was thinking of more of a Fall GTG, but if we want to make is sooner, I'm game. Camping and swimming? Lake Dardenelle SP or Mount Magazine SP both have camping & swimming options nearby. Magazine will be cooler than Dardenelle (higher elevation/more breeze) but Dardenelle is easier to get to for most.

It's been years since I was at Petti Jean, is there swimming nearby?

I drove up to Petit Jean in 09 and scouted around for a GTG spot..

This is the nice picnic table over by the lake, bathrooms and a playground nearby..

Google Maps of Petit Jean

The Museum of Autos is about 1/2 a mile away:

The pool is a short car ride away, but there's no pavilion or anything at the pool.. There are a couple of pavilions over near the lake we could look at reserving..

Hmm, Petti Jean sounds like it could be an interesting location..learned something new since I wasn't aware there was a swimming area near by the park area. Mount Magazine has Cove Lake, but it's something 10 miles from the campground on top of the mountain (if this is going to be a camping GTG).

If my memory serves me right, and lately it could definitely be wrong, there's a campground at cove lake too. Seem to remember staying there many years ago

Hmm, after doing some "Google-ing"...apparently there IS a camp ground by the lake. Guess that's what happens when you use the southern route to get up to Mt Magazine state park all the time.

I just looked at the Mt. Magazine website. I like how the first thing under the camping section is "Bear Safety"

Yeah, not camping there anytime soon..

Oh come on...they're very friendly and only interested in your snacks/food. Besides, your girls will love to pet one. I could go on for a while telling a some what funny story about the last time camped up there with our pop-up (2005) and one of the black bears was in the RV camper area. But I won't bore y'all with that. I will say then...the bears were scared of people...just not their trash/food.

Since we're all talking about swimming, we could always meet at the Buffalo river again. We did that a few years back and it was a blast..

Nice pavilion, kids got to swim, camping areas... NO BEARS!

I might even tow the camper up, or atleast pitch a tent for the night.

(Bump)

If not the Bison River, how about Greer's Ferry? Or more centralized and talk more about Pettie Jean?
