also i am wanting to know more about my engine and i honestly dont know much about ford v8s i have mainly owned 300-6's up to this point.

what i know about it.. it has cheep headers and lan on replacing them in the next year. it also has an edlebrock performer intake manufold. and a holley carb. sorry i dont know what model carb it is,

what i want to know is how can i find out what heads i have and also is there a way to figure out what cam i may have? thanks for any info you can shed on the v8 noob

You have a 351 windsor, the cleveland was NEVER installed in trucks.. ever.

Heads are likely E5TE truck heads which are smog heads with monster combustion chambers so static CR is only about 8.3:1. Look for a capital letter cast into a top outside corner of one of the heads, The letter R will be for E5TE heads. If the truck was a factory 4bbl it has a pretty good cam and you stand to see substantial gains from headers and a free slowing exhaust, but if it was originally a 2bbl then the cam is pathetic and should be replaced with something like the Comp 35-234-3 cam and lifter set.

IIRC, when the 9th vin code is an H, that is the 351W HO with 4bbl. The same one that is in my '85.

That is true.

I thought your truck was a 4x4 though?

What in the world? Where did you get this so-called VIN decode from? It's BS!

(sigh) The 8th digit of the VIN is the engine code. There is no trans code within any VIN or any other of this wild mule ****.

Here is your VIN: 1FTEX15H0FKA29825 .. decoded correctly:

1FT = FoMoCo USA ~ Complete Vehicle.

E = Class E, 6,001-7,000 lbs. GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating range).

X15 = F150 2WD Super Cab Pickup.

H = 5.8L (351W) 4V

0 = Check digit, FoMoCo use only.

F = 1985.

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

A29825 = 1985 Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the trucks specific serial number.

Now, the VIN decode makes sense / Decoded from the: 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog ~ General Information Section.

351C = 1970/74 Passenger Cars/Ranchero's only, have 8 valve cover bolt holes per side (ditto 351M/400) / 351W's have 6 valve cover bolt holes per side (ditto 221/260/289/302).

And, 351C's (351M/400's) have no timing cover per se, just a flat engine cover plate. The fuel pump bolts to the left (drivers) side of the engine block, its bolt pattern is at 6 & 12 o'clock, the only pumps w/this bolt pattern.
