I buy whatever full syn is on sale
I try to stay with penzoil, mobil 1, valvoline and castrol tho

Always ran those is my cars with little issue. A semi syn I used to use a lot on my old 4.0 jeep was kendall. That was nice stuff. But I think with this one I am gonna stick with full syn every 5000 kms cause my truck only gets driven on weekends cause I have a work truck parked in my driveway

The Motorcraft is made by Conoco Phillips the same company that makes Kendall and Trop Arctic. Definitely a good product for the price. If I was going to go with a synthetic I would use Pennzoil Ultra. It has been proven to keep pistons cleaner than Mobil 1 and since it is made with gas to liquid technology the noack rating(measurement of an oils boil off rate) is insanely good.

Costco has Mobil 1 for $36 for 6 quarts and often runs a monthly special for 10 bucks off, so $26 for 6 quarts, which is when I stock up. I think they limit you to 2 or 3 6 packs...

A few years ago, I bought 24 quarts of Quaker State torquepower 5W20 for 99 cents a quart (closeout at Advance Auto Parts) and had 4 full syn changes for my 4.6 for $10 each including a filter. I'll run full syn oil out to 6000 or 7000 miles, Motorcraft syn blend (which is great oil) out to 5000 or so without worry. My engine has 110k miles on it and is really happy. Either Motorcraft or Pure One filters.

There is no need to use anything but the Motorcraft blend in the recommended viscosity. Plus, engines with over 50K miles have tended to leak more oil with a sudden change to full synthetic. This can be a minor annoyance or 'Pull over- what's that smoke coming out from under the hood!'. I won't even use a full-synthetic anymore except in special circumstances, like a turbo engine. Synthetic blends have given me the best service for years.

I always use a motorcraft filters. I change at 3,000 miles or about 6 months on both my truck and my wife's mountaineer(we don't drive a lot). I use mobil super 5000(that's just their conventional) in my wife's and I used to use the motorcraft oil in my truck but I am switching to castrol(conventional) on my next change cause it will save me a few bucks. I wouldn't make the change if I thought it would hurt anything but castrol is good oil and it will be fine. I used to run havoline oil in everything but I can't find it anywhere I shop now, but I always liked it. If I was on longer change intervals then I would stick with the syn. blend but with my 3,000 miles intervals I am comfortable using a conventional oil.

There is no conventional (Group 1 base) that will meet current specs. Conventional and synthetic are marketing terms in North America. Research the groups of base oils or search around on this site and it will be explained in full. I recently posted a VERY short summary of it in the 09+ forum.

Exclamation

Some of the replies I am reading are so far from the truth.
"Use 5W20 because of oil passages being so narrow." That is the biggest BS reply of all. You sir, need to do a GOOGLE search as to why 5W20 is required. And when you see it is for "CAFE" reasons, that is not a place to eat!
The only reply that makes the most sense is where the person stated they use whatever 5W20 is on sale. This is by far the most logical choice.
And BTW,a sudden change to synthetic oil does not cause an engine to start leaking oil. An engine leaks oil due to worn gaskets. Synthetic oil in an engine that already leaks will just leak quicker. Do a GOOGLE search.

Yeah CAFE regulations come from the government. Google search CIA killed kennedy, 911 was an inside job and sasquatch is really controlling the federal reserve while you're at it! It's all a conspiracy!

Walmart.com: Motorcraft Synthetic Blend Motor Oil, 5W20, 1qt: Automotive

This is the filter to use on our trucks:

Walmart.com: MotorCraft Oil Filter FL820S: Automotive

I change it every 5000 miles. I just changed mine last week.

Same here in my '01 Mercury and my '07 FX4 .... sometimes 5w30 in summer if taking a trip west, etc.

you are and always should have been using a full synthetic. 5-20 is what is recommended. I have used royal purple, and Pennzoil full syn. but usually take mine to the dealer for changes. they send coupons and are less expensive then jiffy and barely more then do it yourself, plus they wash and vac the truck and check all other vital maintenance spots.
