steering column issue

i took my steering column apart to replace the upper column berring and the metal sleeve that sits directly on top of the berring has a split in it is that normal and it has sharp edge on it? and could that be causing the slop in my steering wheel and not the berring? if not how the heck do i get the berring out of the column?

If you are talking about the cone part, then yes it is supposed to be split. This is a picture from a 97 F-350.

As far as removing the bearing I used a small screw driver to work it out.

It took a few minutes but it came right out.

Looking at your signature, I'm not sure what truck you are talking about, I am assuming it's the 95.

Here is a link to when I replaced mine. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ml#post9495375

Hope it helps

2005f-150,

I'm not really sure what parts your talking about, my experience is with the upper bearing only.

Go the Section 11 in the Bronco link I sent you eariler.

Scroll down to the bottom where the "Disassemble/Assembly section is and have a look there. It tells you how to replace the bearings.

I hope this helps, sorry I couldn't be more help.
