Yes the 79. Mine is a 79 as well. The one I am going to look at seems to be in much better condition. Or that is the impression I got after talking to the owner. They only made that body style for 78 and 79.

that sounds like a good plan. I did that with a couple pintos back when.. Eventually got rid of both..

No you don't. I enjoyed driving mine. Got 25 mpg and was not too uncomfortable.
