Brake drum question on tranny
I'm looking to replace my worn ZF5 2x4 tranny and have found a couple prospects. One that caught my eye was a 5 speed(probably a ZF5)that cam out a 90 f450. It has a brake drum installed on it. Will this work on my f350? Also, I have read that the brake drum can be removed and a BW Tcase will bolt right up. Am I correct here?Just curious.

Yes it will work...
This has got to be like the 10th time I've written this, but the F-superduty or F-450 with ZF used a 4x4 ZF with the brake drum. Remove the brake drum and a transfer case bolts up. This is the exact route I took on my truck.
Now if you're wanted to go 4x4 with your 2wd truck, thats a whole other can of beans you probably don't want to get into...... swapping front axles(suspensions!!!) is not as easy or fun as it sounds.
Oh yah... make sure its a diesel ZF, the gas ones used 2 different bellhousing patterns and neither matches the diesel.
