55 f100 aftermarket steering column

Hi all
Looking at fitting an after market tilt column either ididit or flaming river ( my original column is 30" floor to steering wheel) I'm having jag front clip put on. Can any that's done this advise me what lenght is best i.e stay with 30" or go longer and any issues or thoughts.
Many thanks

Personally, before making that decision, I'd have my front suspension completely installed, the engine and trans mocked up where it needs to be with the exhaust in place, then see where the steering can go. Everyone's build is just a little bit different, and a couple of inches can make a big difference from application to application. I wouldn't rely on what someone else did to be exactly what you need.

Nick, Wayne is right. It is a crap shoot to guess which length will suit your needs. It is best to wait until the engine and suspension are in place. Then, you can mock up a broom stick with a paper plate tacked to the end and trial fit for comfort. If you guess, you may well be trying to sell the original steering column at a loss so you can buy the correct size later. Good luck, Jag

The Ididit (no column shift) is easily shortened. Other variables would be your seat and preferred driving position, steering wheel diameter and dish, any needed adapter, column drop. Also if you have any middle age hangover (...your trouser belt) . I am using a Toyota PS box with the beam axle, Grant 15" banjo style wheel and Ididit adapter. I originally bought a 34" column then shortened it to 32". It can be shortened almost any amount with simple tools. If you aren't sure, I'd suggest buying it too long and shortening it unless you are buying one with the column shift.

Jeepy,
I ordered a 30" Ididit... on recommendation of Ididit rep... had some header interference problems and ended up offsetting it in cab and extending it...

Nothing is standard.... universal means it will universally fit nothing... good advise so far...get as much in the engine room as you can before buying/installing column..

and here's a link on my install

\Installing a IDIDIT ColumnIn a

good luck

Thanks for all your reply's guy's just makes it so awkward being over here,
if I do not order with other bits it is more waiting for fabricator and more expense on shipping and taxes might go for longer ididit and shorten as suggested.
Many thanks again

You might do a search on Jag front ends and PM the owners.
