I don't have a shroud from a v8 to compare it with, just know that this one I have came off my panel that had a 223 that I removed. I have a Ford truck shop manual and there is no information pertaining to a fan shroud. If the shroud I have is the wrong one it must have been changed since it left the assemby line but in any case it fit.

Bringing this post back...

Thank for the pics...
my 6 cylinder 1954 f100 does not have a fan shroud...

the 6 cylinder shroud looks useless and is impossible to find... has anyone tried the v8 shroud on the 6 cylinder engine? the only reason i ask is LMC sells a repop v8 shroud that looks like it may fit...
thanks in advance....

I tried a v-8 shroud on my 56 223 panel. Couldn't get it to fit without the fan hitting it.

This is a 6 cylinder fan shroud that was in my panel which had a 223 cu, planning on using it in my pickup with the 351cu in. The mechanical fan has 1/2" clearance all around but I need to trim it back to the scribed line so it doesn't rub against the pulleys, the fan blades will be set in about 1/2" after I trim it. The A/C compressor is the closest to rubbing the shroud.

Sorry John but that is a v-8 shroud. I understand it you had a 223 but someone installed a v-8 shroud at one time. Most 223's unless in a larger truck didn't have a shroud at all so I would be surprised if your panel ever had one from the factory. The 223 shroud is much thinner as the engine is much longer than the v8

The thinner one is correct for the 6 cyl

This video shows my friends 53' that has a "6 Cylinder shroud"

I did pull the motor and this shroud from my panel and assumed it was stock, it all looked normal in there, but it's been awhile.

So i was analyzing my engine bay to just fabricate my own shroud... It appears that my fan blade sits lower than the radiator itself... I'm thinking that someone may have put a larger diameter fan blade on my truck... It measures 18 inches across and has 4 blades...

Neither of the shrouds pictured would work with what i have... I was wondering if one of you folks could measure the diameter of the opening in the shrouds pictured?

Side note* All engine mounts are new and look exactly like the ones that they replaced...

Maybe the 223 engine sat differently in 1954, because that shroud would never fit my truck... The top of the blade is about 5 inches from the top of the radiator, and actually sits below the radiator on the bottom...

I would have to agree with you, that thin shroud doesn't look like it would work at all in my 54..
EDIT: I just remembered that I saw a 53 F500 in a junkyard that originally had a straight 6 (star in the grille) that had a newer v8 in it, and the original shroud that had just been hacked apart to allow clearance for the new engine fan. The shroud looked like what you are calling a V8 shroud. It was definitely not the thinner style.

226 fan shroud

I know it's still cold outside, but I'm going to need a fan shroud for a 226H in a 1951 F1. Been checking the normal parts houses with no luck. I see on the HAMB a thread to make one out of fiberglass. Definitely last resort!

It's funny, as I was looking at this thread I always thought that the 6 cylinder didn't come with a fan shroud. If it's a thing for my 54 I guess I should look into it, though it never seems to run hotter than 160 anyway.
