PA emissions, 5 Star and me

Well, if you live in PA AND you run a tuner (mine from Mike@ 5Star) do yourself a favor and put your truck back to stock before inspection/emissions. Took my truck for state inspection last Mon, get a call at work that they can't do emissions test as my truck won't reset. They asked me several questions, had I disconnected the battery recently etc... It hit me after 5 sec, I didn't put it back to stock. I call Mike just to confirm, he says if emissions in PA is through the OBD it won't pass as the tunes turn off emissions crap and readiness codes and good stuff like that. I know, its my own fault but I know when visiting the dealer to return to stock but never gave the emissions test a moments thought. If it were a sniffer test it would have passed no problem. So, after driving around for the next 4 days stock I took it back and it passed and I got my stickers and we all lived happily ever after. The end

Great information Tim.

I've never had issue in NC. I simply unplug the Gryphon CTS (with the custom tune still installed).

However, if you set the truck to stock make sure you do it well in advance to insure you clear a possible P1000 code (or use the SCT to clear the code) after reflashing.

Yes Mr Charlie, like I said I never even gave it a thought for emissions testing. They were cool about it, told me to drive it around for a few days and bring it back ( thats what I planned anyway to clear the codes) Also, I did miss the extra oomph and the improved shifting with Mikes tunes, they were a long 4 days

I had the truck inspected at the same place last year, my wife and I like him- hard to find a good BMW mechanic outside of a dealer. However, I didn't get the tuner until the end of the summer so the truck was already inspected by the time I tuned it. Hope this saves someone just a little aggrevation.

I don't miss the days of emissions testing from when I lived in PA. I loved living there, but running a vehicle was actually more expensive than NY. I know, imagine that, something more expense somewhere outside of NY.

I've lived in PA all my life and never got the sniffer nor failed an inspection because of emissions. I don't return my truck to stock either and I don't take the truck to the dealer for anything. Only thing they check in my county is a visual on emissions equipment (that its there) and test the gas cap. Emissions testing is a waste of money and resources, the entire program should scrapped IMO.

That it is. Here in MD we have to go to a state run facility for emissions testing.

Welcome to FTE. They do in NC too. Doesn't mean you have to reflash with the stock tune.
