My truck is held together with rubber bands!

I was reading up on the block heater option and decided to go see if my truck had one. While under the truck I noticed the entire truck was held together with rubber bands! Here are the pics to prove it.

I posted the same picture a month or two ago. Several of us have noticed them, but I don't remember if anyone actually new what they were on there for. Concensus was not anything to worry about.

im almost sure they are left over from manufacturing. there is zero load on them. kinda like the bit and pieces of masking tape ive found in some places on the undercarriage.

Are rubber bands considered to be unreliable? If they fail will it be caused by bad fuel? Does anyone know the wear scar requirements for these particular rubber bands?

I do plan on leaving them there and seeing just how many miles I can get before they fall off. You guys think I should coat them with some PM-22-A just to be safe?

I would use the PM-24-B, it has a wear scar coefficient.
And then there is the obvious increase in mileage.

No, I think an additive will cause them to wear faster.
You should leave them as is.

Well I'm pissed. Must be a job 2 and up thing, or a 2012 thing.

I didn't get em.

Will have to check eBay now.

Two of those elastic bands are holding a stack of paper together on my desk right now. They are quite beefy and I like them.

I found one behind the front license plate bracket (when I was removing the bracket) and one on top of the engine compartment fuse box. A third one was wedged between a coolant hose but became brittle and was unsuitable for use.

Mine is a Nov 2012 so im assuming it is a job 2, I guess youve got to be special to get extra rubbers with your truck.
