Manual to Automatic swap questions

Anyone swapped their truck to an automatic transmission? I figure it's pretty straight forward for the most part, but I was curious on setting up the shifting at the column rather than the floor. I'm not sure what all is needed.

Just curious as to what all is involved. Bonus points if it's a C6.

Thanks

what column do you have now?

with a non-stock., later model column its pretty easy.

hardest is the drop and the wire hookup and a new wheel..

My 55 is using an ididit column, painted, with a lokar shift rod kit to the C6 tranny.

doing similar with an import ididit knockoff column, and a cable shift adapter to get around the floor mounted brake on the 56.

course u also have the tranny mount cross member, speedo hookup, and maybe driveshaft mod as well..

Right now I have the stock column, but I figured I might end up with something different when I go 4x4 and swap out my front axle. Still looking into how changing the axle will effect my steering connection. Right now I'm trying to figure if I can do this in stages or if I will need to bite the bullet and buy all the parts I'm changing out at the same time and do everything at once.

Do I have to change out the steering box to use a different column?

The brake pedal is an interesting issue, I might have to hang them instead then.

I've been a bit all over trying to figure out what powertrain I really want in there, and some options I'm basically going to have to go to an auto to do.

Thanks

My 54 has a 390 with a C6 installed when I bought it. The PO connected the column shifter to operate the C6. The column and 3 speed shifter are stock other than operating the C6 instead of the 3 speed.
