Aussie 302 heads
Hey guys, So I have a chance to buy some Aussie 302 heads from a local guy. He's asking $400 for them, one of them was taken apart in anticipation of rebuilding them to use on a Mustang which he's since sold, and still has the heads. Is $400 a good price, and is there anything in particular I should be looking for before buying them? Won't be able to use them for quite a while anyway until I can save enough money to rebuild my 400, but I've been reading a lot how the Aussie heads will help boost the compression ratio, and have looked online, and the ones that have been all gone through are quite expensive. Let me know your thoughts, thanks.

Edelbrock and at least one other company make the aluminum heads. Check TMeyer or Summit. They are pretty spendy.
For a pickup, I personally would prefer the iron heads. That's the route I'll likley take if I get into my 400. The Aussi heads, like aluminum, make it possible to build an efficient quench engine with streetable compression. TMeyer can supply the special piston needed to make it work.
If the heads are in decent shape and just need basic freshening $400 is a good deal. If they need a lot of work, not so good.
Do you know why the PO changed his plans and didn't use them?

i got CHI 2v heads on my 400 from Kaase. check them out. besides using pistons that take advantage of the quench area, they don't require much work to use.

Never mind, I found them. Not cheap. I'm really just wanting to improve compression and highway rpms. Not looking to race it or anything like that.
