Thinking of picking up this 59 4x4, need input

So I have been lurking for a few weeks and have decided to finally post. I found this bad boy on C-list and wanted to know what you all thought. These are the only pics I have of it at the moment. He is asking $2500, currently not running, says all it needs is a new battery. Going to go check it out sometime this week. What do you all think? is the price a little high? I am waiting on the guy to get me the VIN, so I can look it up.

cool truck. 2500 seems kinda steep to me but i guess it depends on location and demand. you might want to make sure it runs, and price a front bumper and the grill insert. it might surprise you what they cost. looks like the radiator is not bolted in for some reason and is that fan green. for sure you want to verify its a factory 4x4 and not cobbled together. welcome to FTE and good luck.

Ask him to buy a new battery.Any serious seller would gladly purchase a 75.00 or less battery to increase the likelihood of a sale,if the claim is true.All it needs is.......

If he balks at your asking him to "prove it" , I'd walk.

Welcome to FTE.

Robert , Welcome to the orphanage! From what I can see the truck looks pretty decent. The white shift ***** look correct. The radiator looks to be bolted correct to me, the fan is not stock and the shroud is missing. The air cleaner aint doing much good like that, setting in a dusty desert area, for how long?
Price seems a little high to me but if thats a rust free body? It could be worth it. Check the normal spots for rust when you get a look at it. Bottom rear of front fenders, bottom of A post below the hinges in fender well area and the back bottom cab corners. Also the bottoms of the doors. If this has always been a southwest truck you may find very little rust.
Good luck and keep us posted

any tips on where I might find a front bumper and grill insert, curious to price them out. I appreciate all the tips, I was going to bring a battery with me when I go to check it out, but I like the ideal of asking the seller to get one. Also seller says its been a southern cali desert car all its life. so we will see how bad the rust is. Also just texted seller and he has gone down to $2100. So we will see when I go check it out.

Robert Something is not right in your serial number. Second digit should be a number like
F10C9Rxxxxxx
If that is the case
F10 = f100---the model code F18 or F19 will tell whether it is 4x4
C = 292
9 = 1959
R = San Jose plant
38447 = Numeric sequence

On the data plate there is more info. attached is my data plate as an example.
PS -- looks like it was 13 units ahead of mine

Good luck take pictures

You can get parts here http://classicfordtrucks.shutterfly.com/ Call Riff. His partner Riff has the red & white '60 here. You will know it when you see it.

Robert the data plate is usually on the glovebox door. Sometimes on the A post drivers door.

Fixed it for you. No Rating Plate is located on the B post aka B pillar. There is nothing FoMoCo related on the B pillar until 1970, when the Safety Standard Certification Label was first introduced, and glued on.

1957/63 Ford Truck Parts Catalog sez...

1957/60: The Rating Plate is installed on the left (drivers) side front cab pillar (A pillar aka windshield post) or on the [inside] of the glove box door, depending on model.

And be aware that the serial numbers apply to ALL series' of trucks, not just to F series trucks.

Your F250 4WD was a Domestic Special Order, notice the DSO code of 8130. Trucks of this vintage (and thru 1962) do not have a DSO code unless a Domestic Special Order.

Something was installed by FoMoCo that was not an RPO (Regular Production Order) for 1959 F250 4WD's.

ibuzzard: An old ploy used by dishonest sellers "to hide the sins" is either to install a worthless battery or remove the existing battery, so the vehicle cannot be started and test driven.

Caveat Emptor = Let the buyer beware. If it cannot be started and test driven: PASS!

Doesn't run but all it needs is a battery? WTH? Why wouldn't you put in a battery if you were selling it. Huge red flag. Truck has lots of potential but there seems to be a red flag or two clearly waving. According to the best decipher of the serial #, it is a put together truck, lots of good threads in the last couple weeks on the exact same subject, read up, offer less

1959/60: The SERIES code, first 3 digits of the VIN: F10 just decodes to F100.

The MODEL code stamped on the Rating Plate decodes to either 2WD or 4WD.
