'86 E350 Fuel Tank Switching Problem
I have an '86 Motorhome on an E350 chassis, 460, auto. Has in tank electric fuel pumps, fuel tank selector solenoid on chassis. Draws fuel fine from front tank. When switched to rear tank, can hear rear fuel pump running, gauge changes, however dies when float bowls are empty. Switch back to front tank, restarts just fine. Changed fuel tank selector solenoid earlier today, still same problem. Any ideas other than take it to Ford? Anybody have the schematic for the circuit from the selector switch to the solenoid?

Not sure what you changed as it does not have a fuel tank selector solenoid.
Only the earlier 460 engines with the engine mounted fuel pump had a fuel tank selector solenoid on the frame.
Yours should have an electric motor driven fuel selector valve mounted on the frame.
It also switches the fuel gauge from one tank to the other.
Sounds like the rear fuel tank pump is bad.

The valve on the frame switches the fuel line to the selected tank and the fuel gauge BUT has nothing to do with the running of the fuel pumps.
If you move the switch to the other tank and you do not hear the pump running with the key on an the oil pressure switch jumped then you have bad wiring, connectors or a bad pump.
