2011 Ford F250 6.7 Powerstroke got Reduced Engine Power and Now won't start!

Well this is my first time posting.

I have a 2011 Ford F250 6.7 Powerstroke. It has 107,000 miles on it.

The other day I was driving it down the highway and it got a Reduced Engine Power message on the dash. It lost power and I got off the highway to the service road. Then it died on me. Had to get it pushed to a station then towed home. It wouldn't start. The starter cranks over for a few seconds but engine won't start. Checked all the fluid levels and batteries. My DEF fluid was only a half gallon low.

What I have noticed is that the DEF level indicator hasn't reminded me that it was low for over 4-5 months now. I had been putting in about 2-3 gallons every 3 months or so. But it hasn't reminded me lately and I just forgot. This is my first diesel.

Any thoughts on this issue?

Sounds to me like your fuel pump gave out. I'd start by seeing if you can hear it prime when you turn the ignition on.

If you got reduced power message then most likely there is a code stored. I would obtain the trouble code and go from there.

I had that happen on my 2011 diesel...was one of the sensors on the exhaust. Happened 3 different times. I was reembursed by Ford after paying for the service. Was covered by an extended warranty.

The EGT sensors now have an extended warranty. This sounds like it could be that.

The DEF would have given you messages if you were out.

Beg, buy, borrow, or steal a code reader! Without knowing the fault code, it is just expensive guess work. you will never know, until you KNOW!!!!!!!

My truck is doing the exact same. I hear the fuel pump making a somewhat loud hum when i turn the key to run position.

This is what my tuner reads. And it idles really rough IF i can get it started. Any other tips you have?

I am pretty sure if you are in reduced power mode it will take a dealer to clear it. I haven't seen any threads that help a owner clear a reduced power issue. My suggestion would be to get a Forscan program and look at the voltage values of the pressure sensor. If the sensor circuit is high it probably is either a bad sensor (unlikely if you replaced it already) or a chafed or broken wire. It would be good idea to get that issue resolved before sending to dealer to save some costs.

Are you absolutely sure your tuner program isn't the issue? Have you tried to remove the tuner and check the fuel rail pressure?

That's a lot of DEF. You tow heavy or what?

This thread was started in '17. Surely he has had it repaired by now. It would have been nice to know what he had to do.

i had this issue just a little bit more minor before I put the tuner in. I thought it was because of my DEF fluid so I put the tuner in to delete that. A broken wire would be best and it could be that so thank you for the info!
