Not at all. I have used them on coolant lines, fuel lines, transmission cooler lines, etc. You could always use a set of vise grips, but those can most definitely damage the lines. The orange plastic clamps I have are sturdy enough to pinch the line off but the handles give a little and the jaws don't come all the way together so they can't cut or damage the hose. They work quite well actually. I need to get a second set of them because it would be nice to have two of them the same size for some purposes.

Say one had access to this base NAPA AUTO PARTS. Is there any reason it can't be used with the 4070 filter element?

As long as the threads are the same on the filter and the base and they are the same size i don't see why you couldn't. Just try screwing the filter onto the base, that will tell you lol.

PRetty cool looking filter head though

It looks like the filter would thread on ok. I wonder if it would work as a straight threw instead of the by pass way to install it, as the NAPA 4070 has the restrictor needed for the by pass.

Nothing wrong with that setup. So long as you need to add DCA. Filter 4071 is charged with 4 units I think.

Beats me. I'm gonna hook it up as a bypass either way so a clogged filter doesn't stop the flow through anything but itself.

They showed me a filter that was charged but it was really expensive something like 100 bucks.

Me too.

In the picture, the filter's box is labelled 4071. If it is accurate of the filter sitting there then it is charged with DCA. I think 4 units. FIL 4070 is the same element with zero DCA in it and costs like $15. If you don't need the additive then you may want to return 4071 for 4070. That's all I was saying.

Isnt it SCA additive not DCA? Maybe my brain aint workin cuz its Friday.

But yeah if you charge your system initially when you flush it you do not need a charged filter. However when you go to change your coolant filter down the road and find your SCA levels to be low then you can get a slow release filter so you dont have to maintain it as much!

That is all IIRC. Ive been looking into coolant threads and junk a lot since I finally checked my coolant mixture and it was like 100% coolant with no water.... idiot PO.

Havent gotten to drain/flush the system... just had to suck it out of resevoir add water...run it... suck it out add water... etc etc

Wanting to flush... but at the same time wanting to install coolant filter.

Redman is correct

P/N 4070 -***0 units of DCA charge
P/N 4071 -***4 units of DCA charge
P/N 4072 -***6 units of DCA charge
P/N 4073 -***8 units of DCA charge
P/N 4074 -*12 units of DCA charge

Id return the 4071 if you plan on using fleet charge or another coolant that already has the additive and use a 4070

Thanks for getting my head a little straighter on the filter stuff, it dose appear it would be best to use the 4170 and charged coolant. Due you think it would be good to keep the 4071 to adjust the sca when the sca gets low, or would it be better/easier to just use the additive? The 4071 only cost $8 so no big deal on that.

SCA = Supplemental Coolant Additive
DCA = Diesel Coolant Additive
