VIN Decoding Help

I am looking at buying a 1982 Ford Truck. I dont know much about the ford trucks between 1980-86 since all the fords I own and have owned have been older.

All I know about the truck is its a F-250 automatic transmission four wheel drive. Im trying to find out what kind of engine and transmission it has ext. I have looked on the internet but I cant find anything I fully trust.

Here is the VIN: 1FTHF26Z7CNA40344

Thanks

Thanks, that helps. Can anyone give me an idea of a value. Its street legal with a current inspection sticker. Has about 150,000 miles. In rough shape, faded paint, scratches but still overall solid. 4x4 works. It looks nasty underneath so probably has some leaks.

Thanks

We don't have a picture of the truck nor any other information about it, so for the time being I'd suggest offering him 1000-1200 even for it. That being said I'd find out more about the truck and see it in person, and see what the bells and whistles are.

Also, most importantly, In the future, and it is bound to happen for you, whenever you need VIN decoder, go to LMCtrucks.com (google it if the address doesn't work) and order a Parts Catalog, and they should mail one to your house within 2 weeks. There is a very nifty and helpful vindecoder in every issue the magazine.

Ok then I'll delete it, wasn't aware of the errors, just trying to help

Looks familiar, but a little blood, sweat and tears and it'll come around, I hate to see these trucks die slowly. Anyway, for those that'll search this thread in the future, I'm posting the VIN decoder

TRANS code not listed within the VIN .. it's printed on the Certification Label. With a 400 V8, it's TRANS code K = C6
IFT = FoMoCo USA - Ford Truck - Complete Vehicle.

H = Class G - Hydraulic Brakes - 8,501-9,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

F26 = F250 4WD Pickup.

Z = 400 2V (6.6L).

7 = Check digit, FoMoCo use only.

C = 1982.

N = Norfolk VA Assembly Plant.

A40344 = 1982 Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the trucks specific serial number.

inre to the LMC VIN decoding jazz in post 7, not only are LMC's catalogs rife with errors and omissions, but so is their VIN decoding BS.

Here's the engine codes from the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog, compare the codes with LMC's.

And, LMC omitted some of the Series codes. All the Series codes in that chart (except Bronco) should be followed by PICKUP

LMC hasn't a clue, substituted Standard Cab for REGULAR Cab. There were no F100/350 Standard Cabs assembled after 1969.
